KURUPI DEEP STATE NINE

‘Deep State Nine’ is the latest single from LA-based, Paraguayan punk-rap artist Kurupi. It has a DIY sound with tense, rigid rhythms and twangy guitar countermelodies that connect it to a modern post-punk sound, while verses from FourHEAD and v_nus_jia keep it connected to hip-hop. His timbre is unique, with elements of everyone from Paris Texas, Death Grips and System Of A Down all rearing their heads. He elaborates on his influences: “In elementary school, I had an iPod Shuffle which featured 5 specific songs that shaped what I make today. Those were “Crank Dat” by Soulja Boy, “City Escape” from the Sonic Adventures 2 soundtrack, “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio, “Chop Suey” by System of a Down, and “La Danza de los Mirlos” by Los Mirlos.” His new EP, Mano, drops on November 17th, via Hit The North Records and features four eclectic, collaborative tracks. -Dan Peeke
